Waxing

Waxing is a great way to remove unwanted hair, however waxing isn’t for everyone.  If you are on the fence about waxing or unsure if it is something you should pursue, here are a few tips.

What should I do before my appointment?

Prior to your waxing appointment, a warm shower will help to soften skin and open pores for easier hair removal. Do not apply lotions or creams prior to your appointment.  Most of all, relaaaaaaxxxxx. We’re in this together. I want you to have the best waxing experience possible. Do things sometimes get awkward? That usually depends on what we’re waxing (wink, wink) but I try to bring my sense of humor, I hope you do as well. Any discomfort that you may experience is temporary, the results last a heck of a lot longer!

Are there any reasons I shouldn’t be waxed?

YES! If you…

  • Have varicose veins
  • Have bruising or abrasion
  • Have a sunburn
  • Have rosacea
  • Have had an exfoliating procedure such as microdermabrasion, dermaplaning or chemical peel
  • Are on blood thinners
  • Use topical acne treatments containing glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzol peroxide or exfoliating ingredients
  • Have had Botox within 24 hours
  • Have been using skin lighteners and brighteners such as hydroquinone

OR if you are using any of the following items:

  • Accutane (Acne medication) Must not have used within the past 12 months
  • Adapalene (Acne medication)
  • Alustra (Retin A)
  • Avage (Acne medication)
  • Avita (Retin A)
  • Differin (Acne medication)
  • Isotretinoin (like Accutane)
  • Metronidazole (antibiotic)
  • Renova (Retin A)
  • Retin A (Acne and Anti-aging medication)
  • Tazarotene (Tazorac)
  • Tetracycline (antibiotic)
  • Tretinoin (Retin A)

Feel free to ask any questions if you are unsure if waxing is for you.

What should I do after my waxing?

Keep the area clean and dry for at least 24 hours. Refrain from sweating, swimming, sun exposure and tight clothing. Maybe most importantly… keep your dirty, grubby hands away! Touching the freshly waxed area introduces bacteria to newly exfoliated skin. That’s a no go.

What should I do between appointments?

Maintenance between waxing appointments will help to ensure effective waxing results. Exfoliation is a good way to help prevent ingrown hairs and will make it easier for hair removal. You may begin exfoliating 48 hours after your waxing visit and continue 3-4 times a week until your next appointment. There are a variety of ways to exfoliate, including gentle body scrubs, brushes as well as products specifically designed for maintenance between waxes. These products are often offered by your waxing professional.

Hair length should be at least 1/8th of an inch. This typically takes 4-6 weeks between waxing.
